IF I WAS A RELATIVE OF BREAKER MORANT........

If I was a relative of Breaker Morant I would be confused on what events took place and my opinion on the issue would be heavily influenced by grief as Breaker was a relative. I would be extremely upset and angry to hear that a close relative was trialled, prosecuted and executed without being informed. As a relative of Morant, I would be highly disappointed in the least to see him executing innocent people and unarmed soldiers, to murder these people who posed no threat to him is a crime in its own. Murdering unarmed famers and innocent people is unacceptable and is surely punishable by death, Breaker was apparently following orders from Lord Kitchener, and Kitchener gave Morant the order to kill all. Lord Kitchener was a nasty piece of work, and there was a lot of controversy surrounding him and he was known for inhumane killings. When the controversy surrounding Lord Kitchener came to light, he used Breaker as a scape goat, forcing him to carry out the horrible orders. With no clear evidence associated with the case and Lord Kitchener’s reputation, I believe Breaker should not have been executed until legitimate evidence is provided. Even though he is my relative, if Breaker was charged with war crimes he would deserve death, as I feel for those African civilians and no soldier should murder innocents.

Letter to Sir Prime Minister Arthur Balfour

SENT FROM:
4573 Peregian Springs, Queensland
ADDRESS OF RECEIVER:
10 Downing street, London

Dear Sir Prime Minister Balfour,

It is with great grievance and resentment that I write this letter to you regarding a personal issue which I hold close to my heart. Recently I have been informed that a close relative of mine Breaker Morant, has been trialled, prosecuted and executed under the British marshal court. I am extremely upset as I was not informed or notified of his arrest or his situation. I am also protesting a fallacy of the courts procedure as the trial seemed illegitimate and secret. I do not agree whole heartily with the court’s decision to execute an honest man like Breaker. Lieutenant Breaker Morant was charged of war crimes and sentenced to death by firing squad. The details of the war crimes stated he murdered innocents native to Africa. The lord Kitchener released the warrant for his arrest, this is duplicitous as Lord Kitchener is known to have committed war crimes himself. It seems the Lord was sensing that his crimes were coming to light and decided to use my Breaker as a scape goat in a petty attempt to draw attention away from himself. Lord Kitchener was the one who gave the order to kill all. Breaker was executed because he followed orders? Kitchener the true criminal in this situation is free and alive while Breaker is dead and buried, how can the British government let this injustice happen?

Breaker left the family not too long ago as a young and confident man with a massive heart, I am certain that Breaker would follow orders but not murder innocent men and children, I believe the case was exaggerated in order to make sure Breaker was executed. It is not under Lord Kitchener to execute innocent ally soldiers to protect himself, this corruption cannot be allowed by the army nor the court. The evidence surrounding the case was flimsy and based on witnesses and word of mouth. The court did not maintain the proper procedures and wait for more evidence to emerge, rather, they jumped the gun and concluded the case on a small amount of insubstantial evidence. The case was closed, Breaker was murder, and now, no further investigation has been taken place. At no point was I informed making me extremely angry and distressed to find out a relative has been executed behind my back. The reason for my letter is to request an official pardon from the Prime Minister, and the court to accept corrupt conduct.

War is terrible and can bring out the worst in people, but I have my opinion on Breaker, I have tried to not let my grief influence this letter but it is hard as Breaker was a close relative and rightfully an innocent man.

Sincerely, Rory Morant
